Subj: A Where's Where to Goth Haven Version 2.5 Posted: Tue Apr 20, 2010 at 08:10:03 pm EDT (Viewed 488 times)
The City of Goth Haven started it's life not as a City but as a Farm. Jonas Martin & his family lived on their acreage alone until sometime around the 1860's when Wilbur Parody, the founder of Parodiopolis, had cast out the occult members from his settlement. Now some of these people crossed the river to the another settlement which one day would become Gotametropolis York while others went down the coast to find other places to live. Some found the Martin family & their quite large farm. Jonas Martin being a kind & excepting man let them live on his farm. Through out the region the Martin farm became known as a sort of "haven" for the Goth & Occult people of the area. A decade or so later, the farm had grown into a small settlement & once they had decided to become a town they choose Jonas Martin as their first mayor & renamed the farm Goth Haven. Currently, Goth Haven stands at a crossroads. The City has a distinctly American charm & classic mid 20th century American architecture. They also boast turn of the century technology seemingly merging with it. Mayor J. Thomas Macklinberg approved this "Upgrade" of sorts around the turn of the century (from 20th to 21st). It was part of his "City of Tomorrow" project, which has been stalled due to lack of funding. Most of the major infrastructure had started to be upgraded when the project stopped. The average Goth Havenite hasn't see much change. Now, Goth Haven isn't as famous as Parodiopolis or Gothametropolis York but does offer most of what the those two cities do offer & in a lower price bracket! They also don't have a lot of the big name Super Heroes but they do have their fair share of Super Heroes, most notable are The Wonderful Seven & Earth's Meatiest Hero, Ham-Boy! Up until recently, many up & coming super heroes had used the city as their home base & training ground that was until most of them moved to Parodiopolis to be close to the local office of the Federal Meta-Human Resource Center but some have returned to the city. Also, many of the Super Hero fan clubs on the East Coast are based out of Goth Haven. Goth Haven's Civic Center is almost smack dab in the center of the city. The Civic Center is where the City Hall, The Central Police Department & Meta-Crime Unit Lock-Up, The Seven Freedom's Tower (The Wonderful Seven's HQ), the ultra modern looking Jet Starcream Experience (The Museum devoted to & run by the super hero) & the Leiber Building (The offices of the Goth Haven Times) are. In the middle of all this is the largest of the parks in the city, The Civic Center Park. It also has a special section with statues of all the fallen Goth Haven Heroes which was started in the waning days of World War II. A few blocks from the Civic Center is the Business district with such buildings as the corporation headquarters for computer security giant iLOCE & Marrow Telecom Center 1, the main headquarters for the media giant. The city is highly connected! By the Business District is the Central Transit Hub, where most of Goth Haven's transportation is funneled through & the main office of the GHTA (Goth Haven Transit Authority) is also there. The Metro, Goth Haven's elevated trains & buses start from and end there. The regional commuter trains also make stops off there. West of the Civic Center Park is Goth Haven's premier concert venue: Alligator Alley! During the summer months, they also hold outdoor concerts on a pier down on the waterfront. Near of there is Harbor Point, a place for the public to come & enjoy the waterfront. There are some expensive waterfront housing & various businesses there. One of the most popular attractions in Harbor Point is the Pine Street Marketplace which was started back in the early 1920's. A favorite local diner in Harbor Point is Mama Sarah's Hot Drinks & Baked Goods Emporium. They make all of there food from scratch! An added bonus is that if the meal was to filling for you & you need a place to sleep it off, go up upstairs the apartment (the use of the apartment is free for customers). Going along the waterfront from there are the docks & waterfront warehouses. Out in the harbor is the Blue Steel Memorial Lighthouse on Robinson Island. Past the docks, warehouses & a little inland you get into a low income area of the city: Jefferson Plaza. Near there is the Green Witch district. Green Witch is where most of the "hippies" & people with alternate lifestyles live/hang out. South a few blocks of the Civic Center is the Ballard District, a distinctly middle class neighborhood. One of the most popular places to go in that neighborhood is the super hero coffee shop, Common Grounds. Also, in Ballard is the Chunky Monkey ice cream parlor & Ronald Bryan's House o' Toys. West a few miles of there is Goth Haven's more suburban neighborhoods: Harper's Corners & Ridgecrest are two of the largest. Going further inland from there, you get into the hills. There are exclusive, high priced neighborhoods like Pleasant Meadows, Greenwood & the Highlands. Around them are a few golf courses & country clubs. East of the civic center is the Goth Haven Cultural Museum. The Museum has an permeant exhibit on The Martin Family & the early days of the City. Across town is the rival museum which is called the Museum of Unnatural History, this one tends to be more popular among people. On the outskirts of the city is Goth Haven University. The College offers many world class programs (Their Dental Program is one of the best in the state). Their football team, The Sitting Ducks, are Number Two in the State! Near the College is the local location of the huge conglomerate business, Wally-World. Their parking lot takes up 5 city blocks! Another business in Goth Haven is their locally grown connivence store business, The Gulp 'N Go! There are various location scattered around the city. Most of there locations are located with in Goth Haven but are slowly branching out into other cities. Footnotes: - Marrow Telecom: Marrow Telecom is one of the World's Largest Media Companies. They have centers all over the world but their main headquarters (Center 1) is located in Goth Haven. The building is capped with a rotating silver Globe which has the Marrow Telecom logo on it. Located within Marrow Telecom Center 1 is one of the local TV stations: KYRQ 7. KYRQ broadcasts such shows as Early Morning Goth Haven & Goth Haven Afternoon. Also within Marrow Telecom Center 1 are two radio stations: KMUT 107.3 F.M. & KEMO News 1150 A.M. Marrow Telecom is owned by former WWII era super hero, Thomas Marrow (formerly known as Tom Marrow, the Man of Tomorrow). He got into the field of Radio & Television shortly after he retired from being a Super Hero in the Mid-1950's. He revealed his identity in the Mid-1970's to the public. Thomas has 2 children how have also taken up Super Hero careers: Janet Marrow (Inter-Planet Janet) & Joshua Marrow (Burn-Off). Sadly, his wife died of cancer a few years ago. - The Central Police Department & Meta-Crimes Unit Lock-Up: The Goth Haven Police Department have various local departments around the city but at the central department has a special unit that deals with the more "exotic" crimes within their jurisdiction. The Meta-Crimes Unit (MCU) are lead by Inspector Dennis "Denny" Turpentine & are armed with the latest in Meta-Crime fighting gear. The MCU Lock-Up is one the few finished parts of Mayor Macklinberg's "City of Tomorrow" project. The MCU Lock-Up is similar to The Safe, but in a smaller form. - The Leiber Building: The building has been the offices of the Goth Haven times since 1968 when their new owner, Arnold Sebastian, moved it from it's old location near Harbor Point. At the time it was floundering, so Sebastian bought it cheap & revitalized it. The Times is done in a photograph dominated tabloid format & regularly prints staff writer, Rolland Stone's anti-super hero "editorials". The Building is forty-six stories tall, and is capped by the Goth Haven Times logo in 30-foot letters on the roof. During the early 90's, Arnold turned the ownership of the paper over to his son, J.J. (No one knows what the double J's stand for). J.J. having no desire to be the Times editor he put in his place Edgar St. Croi, a newspaper publishing veteran. - The Blue Steel Memorial Lighthouse: The Lighthouse is named after the WWII era super hero Blue Steel, who died defending the city from an invasion of Space Creatures in the mid 50's. The Creatures were later found out to be members of the alien race known as the Skree. A statue of Blue Steel was one of the first to be placed in the Civic Center Park's Fallen Heroes memorial section. Currently under the lighthouse is the secret headquarters of Ham-Boy known as The Meat Locker!
