Remember when comic book technology was fantastic and impossible? Well, if you haven't seen it yet (It's around a year old now), we apparently have Goblin Gliders in real life: https://youtu.be/WQzLrvz4DKQ?t=1m37s That's not one of those water ones that lift people on out-of-control fire hoses (although it's made by the same people who invented those)... it's a full-on flying engine that the rider stands on. It set the world record for hoverboard flight distance, and is supposed to be capable of going speeds approaching 100mph.

This was the home-made contraption that held the record before that jet engine one above beat it. It seems like the guy strapped a bunch of commercial drones to his feet. So instead of the roar that other one must have made, this one sounds like a fleet of angry weed-wackers coming for you: https://youtu.be/Bfa9HrieUyQ

Technology and spec-fic seem ever-more interlocked, anymore, certainly. I do wonder if we'll ever learn if Visionary is truly fake, though. |
