NOTE: Not sure where this exactly fits in continuity. It just is at the moment. This story either alters previously stated information or establishes new info in regards to David Bookman. “Name?†“David.†“Full Name, please. This is for the official record.†“oh… Sorry. David H. Bookman.†“Does the H stand for anything?†“Probably. I’ve never known what it stood for. The only people I know who’d know are either dead or presumed dead.†“alright. Age?†“I don’t know.†“You don’t know how old you are?†“Not in how you count it in the before times. I know how old I am from where I’m from. I am 40 trips past the astral cluster Alpha Gamma Prime 69.48.2. I’ll be 45 trips the next A.L.F.RED the Great celebration.†“uh… I’m not sure how to denote that in the record.†“I’ve been told I am something that in a 6. I think it’s 16 but I could be wrong.†“ok. You look about that age.†“ok. Let’s go with that.†“Where you from?†“The Moon. Dark Side. Northern Hemisphere.†“No one is from the moon. It does not have any indigenous populations.†“At least in this time period.†David said interrupting. “yes…. Everyone currently living on The Moon came from somewhere else. The location you just gave me is the general area known to be where the Moon Public Library stands.†“That’s where I’m from. The Grand Library. Home Sweet Home.†“Where were you born?†“I just told you. The Moon is my only home. I’ve only ever been away from it this one time. I was expecting The Earth to smell differently. The books told of many smells. I do so want to smell what a garbage dump smells like.†“alright. Maybe we can arrange that later. When are you from?†“From a time beyond time.†“What does that mean?†“I assume you know who my father is/was?†“Yes. Lenard H. Bookman. The Librarian. Member of the Lair Legion. Former member of the Intergalactic Order of Libraries.†“So… you must also know about the IOL’s ban on families, right?†“yes. That the presence of a family would detract from the job.†“So… when a Librarian does start one there are only a few things to do. The IOLs’ most popular method is to terminate it. I am from a time beyond the time of the IOL. It was the only place safe for me. I was raised on The Moon in the loving care of Grandma D.D., she was my parent.†“What about your father?†“He would visit infrequently. Frequent trips to our period could be easily tracked by the IOL. I might of lived post IOL but the threat was still there.†“time travel.†“yup. Plus the IOL might of been dead that did not mean that there were not factions still doing their work. The Sons of Garth took many of my friends growing up. But going back to what your asking about: My Father. I might of not seen him all that much but that does not mean I did not know of the great things he did. All of us kids knew the stories of the great rogue Librarian who fought against evil IOL to bring forth knowledge to us all. We also knew of his compatriots the Lair Legion.†“so… who know the future?†“no. I know the past.†David said with a smile. “Is there is life on Earth in your time period?†“I don’t know.†David said shrugging. “we never had much contact with it. I’d assume so. On a clear night we’d receive errant signals from Earth over the subnet.†“What kind of things?†“pretty much anything broadcast in any number of languages.†“Could you contact The Earth if you wanted?†“Sure. But that would eat up our energy rations for awhile so we’d only try to do that in a time if distress.†“How many people live in The Moon?†“How many people live on The Earth?†“7,404,976,783.†“whoa. That’s a lot of people.†“How many live on The Moon?†“I’m not really sure. We rarely left the comfort of the Grand Library. I do know of a few other colonies scattered about our hemisphere. We don’t talk to the other tribes very much. We have no reason to.†“Do people still visit the Moon Public Library in your time.†“Of Course! The Grand Library is still known far & wide to be one of the last great repositories of knowledge in the known universe.†“Why do you call it the Grand Library & not the Moon Public Library?†“That’s what we call it. That’s what everyone calls it. The Moon Public Library name is what it was called in the before times. It also has strong IOL connotations it which is not something you want to be associated with.†“I see.†“Are we done here?†“I think so.†“cool.†

I wasn't exactly sure who he was talking to so I left that part vague.

A cryptic and saddening origin story, leaving a lot of emptinesses in David's psyche. I hope he finds fulfillment. J. JONAH JERKSON

Maybe not in another interview but in other stories. Quote: The idea of a Moon Library intrigues me, especially if it's goal is to be a protected archive, safe from alteration or destruction. There is always time for alteration: new books to be added, new editions to add to the older editions. They also have back up plans in case of destruction Quote: If that's one of its goals, I wonder what sort of security it has...It's got lots of security, why do you ask? Are you planning on robbing the library? Quote: how about library fines?..Those are a thing that the Library offers Quote: dewey decimal system?...Yes. That's how the books are ordered. Quote: a children's section with a children's hour?Yes. There is a section for kid's books. Children are welcomed at any hour the library is open Quote: Does it have a Teen Room and can you check out Stephen King books? Not sure. The Stephen King books are in the normal fiction section. Quote: Is there a waiting list for Harry Potter books?nope. Quote: Can you bribe your way up the waiting list? no. You can bribe your way down the list for trying that!

Quote: A cryptic and saddening origin story, leaving a lot of emptinesses in David's psyche. I hope he finds fulfillment. Not sure why it's sad, It's not meant to be. Cryptic: Yes. Sad: No. There might be "emptiness" due to the fact that he's not a fully fleshed out character. |
