Countdown to our 10th Anniversary

I’m willing to fudge exactly when, but sometime in September 1998 the first postings of what would eventually evolve into the Parodyverse began as reply threads on the Avengers Message Board. So we’ve at a significant anniversary.

I propose that we designate 12th-20th September as our celebration week (and a bit). There are a number of things I’d like to suggest for us to do during that week, as follows:

Friday 12th September: Online chat in the Lair Legion Living Room. I’ve already booked a hostess for the event and she’ll probably hunt you down if you’re not there.

Saturday 13th September: I’d like to FINISH that damned Saving the Future round robin.

Sunday 14th September: We’ll be launching our Then and Now survey. Just how have you changed since 1998? And what about your characters?

Tuesday 16th September: We’ll be asking for the Hall of Fame reposts. You’ll have a chance to nominate a favourite story that you wrote and a favourite story from somebody else (preferably one that’s appeared on the PVB). We’ll get them all up so there’s lots of material for people to get nostalgic about.

Wednesday 17th September: The Interviews. We’ll be asking you to interview yourself about your life and interests and your view of the board and the world. We haven’t done one of these for five years so it could be interesting.

And the other days? Well, I’m not doing all the heavy lifting. Let’s have your ideas too!

Oh, and since I’m mostly offline this week again it would be great if somebody could circulate invitations to the alumni and let them know what’s going on. Volunteer in the reply thread here, please. And just this once, maybe Jason could “sticky” this note for a few days so that everyone knows what’s coming up?

You will celebrate and be joyous. Thus proclaims… the Hooded Hood.

Where was I 10 Septembers' ago? Well, I was just starting my freshmen year of high school & It would be 4 years before I even knew what the Parodyverse was.

Alas (or Hooray!, depending on how you look at it), I'll be on holiday in New York for most of this period, but I'd love to participate as much as I can.

Will there be a set of questions for the "Then and Now" and the "Interview"? If someone could send 'em to me a few days early, I could e-mail them to Ian or whoever before I leave, so they're posted on the appropriate day.

Geesh. I was 15 years old when we started this madness.

Happy 10th, everyone!

Work is going insane again (I have had more stuff handed to me, the bloody server builds are imminent and we are going through a release. Again.)

You may have noticed that my contributions have mostly been limited to short comments - it's probably going to stay that way for the near future. If given some interview questions I might be able to knock something up, but - obviously - I don't want to make any promises.

As is always the case with my writing, please feel free to comment. I welcome both positive and negative criticism of my work, although I cannot promise to enjoy the negative.

Actually, I think one could argue that they started in late August on the AMB, but by mid September the Parodyverse-ish stories went from being an off-topic oddity on that board to supporting a board all their own, and has done so for ten years straight!

Yay us.

Would she be dressed like Shanna or Shena or any of those jungle women huntresses?

You know what... it doesn't matter. I'll be there anyway.

I suppose that means I should finish the tie-in by then too.

I'm sure I've just improved with age. Really.

What haven't I reposted way too many times already?

I've had to do video interviews for work. I was really quite bad at them.

I'll need to think about it. Usually for anniversaries I try to get away with some flowers and a nice dinner.

I'll try to make it if I'm not still overworked. Taking care of people and dog who are ill takes a lot of time, sadly. I can guess who the hostess is at least.

Yay!

I'm older since 1998. Only one character in the PV existed in 1998, only she wasn't in the PV.

Noted.

Hmmm...

Post a story a day? Every two days?

Hey Visionary,

If you're going to be free anytime 20th or 21st weekend I'll be in the Washington area with a car so can drive to Anapolis and we can hold the 'Second Parodyverse International Gathering' if you like.

Let me know.
