anime.mangacool.net (10.0.255.1)
using Apple Safari 3.0.3 on MacOS X (0.18 points)

Mangacool.net seems to have a big target painted on it by site exploiters this week.  Since changing the passwords didn't help (it was compromised again last night) I'm guessing this is a server-wide problem still.

While I'm fairly patient with problems like these, the banks whose fake sites have been repeatedly tagged onto this site (and seem to reappear as fast as I can delete them) have complained and are becoming rapidly more impatient.

That means I'm going to have to start at least looking for new, safer hosting within the next few days, because there's a very real chance this site may be involuntarily shut down (sadly the host would have to comply with any legal orders) if the exploitations can't be curbed.

So if anyone has any suggestions, please reply.  Any host I select would need PHP 5, ImageMagick, and MySQL, be very reliable, and not too expensive.  The PVB currently takes up about 800 megs.

P.S.  Even if the site itself is shut down I could relocate only the PVB to one of my other domains.  The board itself has been relatively safe.  I just hate having to email everyone with a new domain address.

P.P.S.  I've removed all software from the site that's not of my own design, including the New Lair Legion Living Room.  It's not suspect, it's just easier to control what's on the site if I know every inch of it.

If everyone can e-mail me at hatman @ mts.net so I can compile a complete e-mail list in the event of a board shutdown, that would be great.  Unless someone (Vizh, HH?) has a complete e-mail list already.

Better safe than sorry.

Oh, and Jason, I got an e-mail from I think it was the US Bank about this problem this morning (I didn't see your address listed, just mine, Vizh, and G-Eyed).  Just so you know.

Alas, I can't offer any suggestions. My ISP - Demon - offers Web Hosting Professional" at £20 per month (1GB space, 100GB Transfers/mth; Perl, PHP, Microsoft FrontPages, ChiliSoft ASP, MySQL database and SSL capability included), but that may be more than you want to pay, and you probably don't want a UK provider.

If it has to be done...

We have survived board moves before.

I have no problem with this at all, especially as I couldn't use the new LLLR...

Once again, can I express our appreciation for all the work you do on this site.

As is always the case with my writing, please feel free to comment. I welcome both positive and negative criticism of my work, although I cannot promise to enjoy the negative.

You have mine already.  :)  I do want to note, though, anyone sending email addresses please use the board-based email to send it, or via Private Message.  Don't post them to the board, we don't want to encourage the troublemakers any more.  :)

Also, I used a computer I have at home to test how easy or difficult it is to relocate the PVB quickly.  Thanks to the new tech I spent the last year perfecting, it now takes about 2 hours to get the board fully operational at another location.

If I have to, I could simply set up the PVB at one of my other domains (strike-two.com, powermad.net, etc) so it's located someplace that isn't a big target.  The tricky part is finding everyone and telling them where it's gone.

I got one of those too.  Apparently their security people went searching through every email link that looked like someone in charge.

They don't seem to have ImageMagick.  I know that's rare, though, which is what makes this difficult. \:\)

At least it'll be relatively quick.  I moved the entire PVB to a computer at home.  Including the time it took me to upgrade PHP, install ImageMagick and Mysql, and copy the files and set up the database, it was about 2 hours.  And that's a MacOS X computer, which isn't at all similar to the server the PVB normally runs on - so I know it's very portable.

I removed it mostly because I didn't feel like looking up if Flashchat or Squirrelmail had vulnerabilities that could give an attacker access.  I'm pretty sure the board software doesn't, because it simply doesn't have that kind of access at all.

I just get really angry when someone's targeting it for destruction.  I never bothered anyone...I don't think...

I have no suggestions. I'm pissed off and depressed about other junk right now, but when it comes to the board I'm tired of the crashes and other glitches. I welcome the move.
I wish I had some ideas, but I really have very little to add.
I know that the Raving Toy Maniac and Fwoosh both were hit hard at times so those ideas won't help.
Absolute Write never goes down and I never have problems there even though I use Internet Explorer. Maybe that host is an answer? But I don't know who hosts them.
Anyway, let us know. I'll be glad for the change.
(It just crashed again when I tried posting this. Why do I even try?)
