Friday, Sept. 21, 8 p.m. Pacific, Sci Fi Channel, "Utopia."
This is it. One of the best buildups and cliffhangers of NuWho's entire run, with a standout performance by Mister I Clavdivs himself, Derek Fucking Jacobi.

Subject: You're spelling it wrong, tardo. The title clearly says "I, CLAVDIVS." :) [Re: Visionary enjoyed the books and the Jacobi miniseries.] Posted Fri Sep 21, 2007 at 02:18:59 pm EDT (Viewed 370 times)

Subject: The snake was the Master's inner essence, from the 1996 TV movie, when he possessed Eric Roberts. [Re: Scott] Posted Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 07:39:21 pm EDT (Viewed 361 times)

I KNEW it was the Master!
So Ian, what Masters were in those voice overs in Yana's head? It sounded like something from earlier in the old series.
Very good stuff. I like how Jack is immortal (we see that on Torchwood, too) and the Doctor is so repulsed by that that he left him.
We need to see Jack in the Old West and other eras.
One thing, so Jack was picked up in WWII (he was a time traveler, a fact that we don't hear anything about) then traveled with Rose and the Doc. He was left in the future, traveled too far back and lived till the present. That means in WWII there were two Jacks. Cool. Another fun episode that would make.
Oooo the Master seeps evil. I can't wait for the next two. This season sould have had more "Saxxon" forshadowing, but there were alot of fun single and double stories. Give and take.

... Besides (I assumed) Jacobi himself, saying "Summon me ...", were the first onscreen Master, Roger Delgado (receding hairline and salt-and-pepper hair and beard), saying "Destroy him ...", and Anthony Ainley, arguably the longest-running Master (slightly younger, with slicked-back brown hair and beard), doing his infamous chuckle.

After the build up, we'd have been disappointed if it was anyone else.

yes, the voiceovers were from earlier episodes, starting with Roger Delgardo in "The Daemons" - one old story I urge you to track down and watch.

We do get a glimpse of Jack in WW1 in Torchwood ep 5 (also a very scary episode).

And Jack meets yet another Captain Jack Harkness when he time-travels back to WW2 in Torchwood ep 12.

The Master really is about as nasty as it gets in Doctor Who. The philosophy is that everything the Doctor can do for good the Master can do for evil. It's basically "if the Doctor turned totally bad what could he accomplish"?

I was disipointed a while ago, on Smallville when they built up an appearance for Batman but went a different way. I know the feeling. Good that this didn't happen here.

I'll try.

Sweet! I'm behind by two episodes. I need to catch up.

He reminded me of Luthor and Joker. Whew! I'll comment on part two above.
