Guys,

I am sorry to report that on Saturday afternoon I was rushed to Queens hospital with suspected cardiac issues. On Tuesday I was forwarded to Barts for an angiogram (delayed 'til Wednesday...) and then told that there was nothing suspected about it, and would I like a couple of stents put in or a full bypass. I am now the proud owner of three stents and a few balloons.

I'm back home now and going through the process of contacting friends and family that I couldn't contact at the time (Mobiles forbidden in the Cardio ward).

Oddly, I have felt fine from about the time that the 111 operator called the ambulance - the worst I had from the Operation was a stiff arm that evening - but am obviously going to have to rethink my life a bit.

I don't think I am going to get a story out of this one (at least, not one suitable for the board...) despite there being a lot of material crossing my path over the last few days (starting with the idiot who after his angiogram undid the helix clamp on his wrist. You know, the one that was sealing his artery closed...). On the other hand, I have a threatened 5 weeks of rehabilitation - who knows how bored I'll get...

Chris.

Get better, and then stay out of hospitals! They're for sick people!

I'm glad to hear that you're home and recovering! Hopefully the worst you'll have to deal with is boredom while recuperating. I'd be happy to read any stories that could come from this, or recommend something to help pass the time.

Regardless, take care of yourself and get back to 100%!

That must have been worrying all the same. I'm glad to hear there was nothing suspect in the end and hope you are enjoying the new parts to your body. Step one to becoming a cyborg?

It was in fact a full heart attack (as confirmed by the angiogram), albeit a relatively mild one (well, compared to the ones that leave you dead...).

...But I felt fine for most of the treatment: the pain had already receded by the time the ambulance was called, and the only other side affect was an ache in the arm they did the angiogram from.

Never mind being a cyborg, though. The technology for cardiac treatment is genuinely interesting and amazing. 15 years ago my father-in-lay was in hospital for weeks after heart surgery. I was out within two days of the operation.
