It is the middle of the Earth month known as March, up on that planet’s sole non man made satellite which is known to some of those inhabitants as The Moon. Nestled among the cratered surface on the dark side of that planetoid on it’s northern hemisphere there stands one of the few non natural structures.

It’s a circular metal building with a glass top. The light of the sun shines down through the main atrium of the building to the patrons milling about The Moon Public Library. Up on one of the upper balconies, sitting with his legs dangling off the edge sits the in name only current Librarian, David Bookman. A young boy, maybe in his early teens. He has a messy mop of chestnut brown hair to went half way down his neck. His skins was a bit pale but also seems to have a tan at the same time. He was wearing a slightly ill-fitting IOL sanctioned uniform: a dark blue jumpsuit with gunmetal dark grey leather accents. Around his waist was a gunmetal black leather belt. The belt’s silver buckle was well worn and had a faded yellow “L” painted on it. On his hands is a pair of dark brown, well wore, leather gloves; the fingertips of the gloves are cut off exposing his fingers. He also wore mid calf gunmetal black leather boots. Each boot had 3 dark brown leather straps with silver metal clasps. They were cinched down so that the boots held snug tightly around his legs.

Also up there is a holographic projection. The projection is of that of D.D. She appeared to be that of a young woman & all that is shown is the woman’s head, neck & shoulders. The Projection cuts off shortly under her collar bones. She has platinum blond hair that would float down her back if she had more then just shoulders. Her skin was pale & seemed to glow but that might just because of her being a hologram. She also had green eyes that seem to sparkle & shine but also that might be because she was a hologram.

Her projection floated a few feet off the ground, at about David’s eye level. D.D. always projected herself at the eye level of the viewer.

Sitting next to David was a olive drag colored messenger bag. On top of the bag, was a small rectangular device with a few minimal buttons on it & a glowing blue screen. Attached to the device with a small black cord that to lead to a pair of headphones that David was wearing over his ears. The device looks to be from 2077 but the headphones looked to be from 1977.

Sitting in David’s lap was a leather bound book, along of the spine of the book was some circuitry. This book was like every other book on the shelves of the Library. Everything on those pages were also saved in the Library’s digital archive. Any time the archive was updated, those corresponding book was update themselves.

The book David had was a special book, it was blank. It was David’s job to fill it up. Anything that he wrote in their was added to the archive. This was the first time had anything to do with the archive. Before coming to this time period he hadn’t been able to freely access it but he guess that because of what has now happened to him that was probably for the best. He was only here because he shares enough DNA with the past Librarian to keep the building & all it’s contents out of the hands of the IOL, the former owners of the Moon Public Library.

“well… I have to get going.” D.D. said “The library doesn’t run itself, you know!”

D.D. laughed a bit before saying “Why don’t you write about your recent trip to Earth with A.L.F.RED?”

The projection disappeared & he was left alone.

As David sat there up on his balcony, he’d every so often look up & out the windows to see Earth in the distance. It’s so much easier to get there from here now then it is when he’s from. He was a bit sad that in his trips away from the Library they haven’t taken the Galactibus down to the Earth’s surface but the portals take less time so it’s understandable why they are used. The Galactibus is just a more scenic & more bumpy trip. David thinks back to the first time he went down to Earth. The hours long trip was worth it. Once you make it through the layers upon layers of smog that make up the upper atmosphere & pop out to see the world it’s quite breath taking.

Last week he made his first trip to this time period’s version of Parrodipolis. A city that he had visited many times in his time but it was so much different when he went. I was a bit disappointed that they would not be able to fly into the city but the first thing he noticed was the lack of protection around the city. People could just come & go as they pleased. He wondered what all the border Hatters did without a wall to protect? The Great A.L.F.RED, who was escorting him, said that in this time period the wall was not needed. The Great A.L.F.RED also said the Hatters had not been formed yet. Most of their responsibilities were split up among other groups. The “Police Officers” he had read about seemed to be most common near equivalent to what a Hatter is. He assumed that the fact of not needing a wall meant that the frequent attacks of Freak Boys was dealt with in other fashions.

He also noticed how much activity was going on. And the sounds, Parrodipolis is so much louder in this time period. David wasn’t sure how people could stand all of it. He was just glad for the headphones Grandma D.D. had provided him. They greatly helped with minimizing the noise around him.

He & the Great A.L.F.RED had come to Parrodipolis to meet up with the Legion of the Lair or as he was told that it was the Lair Legion & the Legion of the Lair was not yet formed. This was the group that they took their inspiration from. He asked if the Regulars existed in this time period, the Great A.L.F.RED said no they did not & then laughed for some reason David didn’t know. When he asked asked why, the Great A.L.F.RED told him to not worry about it. He notices that he is told that a lot in this time period.

The meeting was taking place at a location he had been to a few times but not to the building on the site. It wasn’t there when he had been there, only the foundation remained. He rarely went to that part of the island anyways since it cost a lot to just look at the basically nothing. The grounds were still nicely keep up in either time period. When David did visit to Parrodipolis, it was always a nice to visit the grounds. His favorite spot was always down by the shore near the Faker’s Lighthouse. You did have to deal with some of the Faker Missionaries trying to convert you but that was only if they even noticed you.

During the meeting, he choose to not make his presence all that known. He found a nice chair in the corner of the meeting & watched. The Great A.L.F.RED seemed to be doing fine meeting with those Legionnaires. They were all so brightly colored. He was amongst Gods.

He noticed that among the Legionnaires was a representative of the Fakers. He didn’t not approach them or talk with them but anyone barring the diamond symbol and wearing those colors was well known in his time period was to be a Faker. His emerald & gold coloring was a bit more muted then he normally saw but he was clearly a Faker. It was quite odd to see one without their connection to the digital world but maybe they had not yet fully shunned the natural world for the fake one had done. He was afterwords told by the Great A.L.F.RED that was not a Faker but actually the one known as Visionary. If/when he gets back to his own time & he tells a Faker that he saw Visionary in person he’ll most likely be shunned by them. He would be told that I shouldn’t say such things to them for fear that the Kerry might appear before them in a ball of flame & drag them away.

Another thing he liked about the meeting was the one called Flapjack provided him which many foodstuffs to try. The Great A.L.F.RED said to never agree to anything he was asked by Flapjack & to never take any packages offered to him. Food was ok.

As he sat up on his balcony, David pulled out some of the food he has saved out of his bag & ate it. Some of the pastries & a few of the candies kept rather well. The flavors were like none he had before.

While at the Legion’s meeting hall, he has wandered off from the meeting. He had seen a lay out of the building before coming & walk around by himself. The lower levels seemed to beckon to him. Later on the Great A.L.F.RED asked where he had gone & told him, he said that was because he was the Bookman & his father spent a lot of time in the building’s basement.

He has found the room where his father had spent his time. It was easy to find since the door had a sign written in his father’s hand writing. It was like a miniature version of the library, messier version of it but a version none the less.

The stacks of papers, folders, binders & other items had a thin film of dust over them. Nothing had probably been touched all that much since his father had regularly been there.

Before David could write any more, he’s distracted. Down on the main floor, there is a distribution at the main reference desk. Looks like they could use some help. David puts the book into his bag & pulls out out his gauntlet. He pulls it on & flips a few switches. The gauntlet lights up & uses the railing to pull himself up off the floor.

He then pulls himself up onto the railing & jumps off the railing.

“TALLY HO!”
