The PVB has a history of taking real world and comic book world events and using them as fodder for its stories, either for a cheap laugh or serious commentary (and in the best case scenarios both).

Which brings us to America's recent Presidential election. I can say without hyperbole that the outcome of the race is the most surreal thing that's happened in my lifetime. Without getting too much into politics; a man who has been a punchline for over thirty years, who supposedly had no chance of becoming the "Leader of the Free World", just did.

So, yeah, the US's current political climate offers a lot of opportunity for parody. My question to the board is, do you have an opinion on what tack to take (or take to tack...le)? I have a couple of ideas personally, but thought to check and see if anyone else did before going through with my own plan and unilaterally setting the stage. All comments welcomed, and appreciated in advance.

I am fine with any approach, myself. I honestly don't know what to make of politics any longer. Perhaps I'm one of those liberals who is supposedly too insulated to have seen it coming, but I didn't think Trump could win the Republican nomination, let alone the general election.

Trump himself seems almost Parody-proof. How do you take him to absurd levels beyond what we have already seen?

President Roni Y Avis would be my first guess on the most Parodyesque take on it.

Or President Thighmaster.

But really, I'm happy for you to give us your take on it. He's your President after all.

I thought about putting references in to my stories but decided that it wasn't really my mess to make fun of. It would be like laughing at the victims of a car crash.

I was interviewed by an American radio host last Sunday, and in the pre-show chat he took fifteen minutes to explain to me the importance of the Electoral Colleges to the founding fathers' visions of America, arguing that the recent college/popular vote split was exactly the situation the founders had envisaged when they made that constitutional provision, "protecting the rural heartlands from the big cities". Since my comment to trigger this was, "How are you doing today?" I conclude that the election and the rifts it highlighted are still very present in the US today.

The current situation does test the old saw about everybody getting the government they deserve.

I think for it to truly work the President can't be an already established character. I like JJJ's "Tromp" stand-in, personally.

It wasn't just liberals who mis-read the situation, obviously. That's what made the moment so insane; conventional wisdom absolutely failed to see what was coming. It's kind of hard to argue against bias in mainstream media or other traditional institutions when they got something so incredibly wrong.

Yes, or you could just go with using Trump himself. It is the Parodyverse after all.
