Subj: And, surprise surprise, more cards Posted: Tue Sep 07, 2010 at 01:41:41 pm EDT (Viewed 562 times)
Continuing with the Mythlands theme team, here we have Hallie in all her pixie-suit glory. Well, most of it; the image wasn't wide enough to really showcase the art as it is meant to be, unfortunately. Anyway, Hallie is a very powerful card. As I mentioned before, the Mythlands characters have the "Backup" ability, which means the character can exhaust itself (aka be unable to attack or be used to pay for exhausting effects) for an ability before combat begins. However, with Hallie around, a character can use its Backup ability and then be readied by Hallie, meaning it can either use its ability again or be eligible to attack when combat begins. I figured that even outside of her electronic form, Hallie is the "tech support" of the team, or in this case, just support. She's not going to be the muscle of th eteam, but she'll do whatever she can to help the muscle get the job done. Here we have Mirii. I had to mess around with the background since the original art is very tall and skinny, and I'm not overly thrilled with the result, to be honest. I'll probably have to revisit the background issue later. Anyway, I wanted to reflect how dangerous Mirii is when you get between her and her kids. I really struggled with how to reflect this, and Mirii went through a lot of changes as I developed the card. In the end, I gave her the Backup ability to target another character to be removed from the board if they get stunned. I was trying to represent Mirii swooping in for a stealth kill with her Hourii daggers, at her most dangerous when nobody expects it. Since Tanner is a werewolf, I wanted to play around with a "phases of the moon" theme. Therefore, when you have the initiative (aka the full moon), Tanner cannot be stunned. However, when you don't have the initiative his defense is pretty low, making him a vulnerable target. I also gave him the ability to track hidden characters, to represent his enhanced senses. I also want to talk briefly about the diamond symbol next to the Lair Legion team affiliation on the cards. In VS system, many teams have been given an icon to replace their printed name in the game text box to save space. I sat and thought about what character really would represent the Lair Legion, since the LL don't realy have a logo. I debated using the Parodyverse logo Vizh made, but I was already using it in the top right corner of each card (on real cards "Marvel" or "DC" would be up there). In the end, I decided that Visionary is the heart of the team, therefore I would use his diamond logo. Unfortunately, I am going to have to change this as I recently remembered that a diamond is already used in-game to denote a character's identity (eg. Steve Rogers Captain America), so it could be confusing. Any thoughts on what to use for a Lair Legion logo are welcome! ~Hat~
